Either GB or GB-X, there's still high chance you need to send back to Casio for module upgrade. You can download Gshock plus app and check the help site for your location. I would suggest to get the gb-x if that's what you like, and frankly it's my favorite among the lots too.

I was mainly going for the gb-x as i thought it was the latest and thus most likely to work with android 5.0

Hence me asking if there any advantages with the earlier gb if neither are likely to work OOTB.

actually the gb-x might be out of production already. Either one, just be prepared to ship to Casio for upgrade.

I am still thinking about getting a GB-5600B-1BJF or not.
It is truly the best looking all over black square G on the market.

I thought that gd-350 was solar at first look.

Now tht would be good on a Bluetooth watch

Bluetooth aside, I think the Display is enough reason to buy it! super legible.

Thread necromancy, but I noticed the other day that Casio had updated the app and claimed "improved connection". Yeah, right, I thought, but I reinstalled it anyway. IT WORKS! Paired second go (nobody's perfect I guess) but seems to reconnect after a disconnect without any faffing. FWIW I never bothered to return it for a module upgrade, so it's as it was when I bought it over 18 months ago. Maybe they finally integrated into the Android Bluetooth stack properly. So far, two disconnections and reconnections caused by deliberately going out of range and coming back in. Casio, I may have forgiven you. (Sony Xperia ZR with v4 of the Android OS).
