Why is my Rangeman not showing sync icon even though it syncs at 0:05-ish

    Hey

Yesterday my ranger was not showing the radio signal synced icon all day

Even though it had successfully (and not manually) synced at 0.05 the night before

    So, what gives?
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

It tried to sync at 3 AM, 4 AM and 5 AM but failed - no icon.

Re: Why is my Rangeman not showing sync icon even though it syncs at 0:05-ish

It tries to synch at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 and then following day at 0:00, 1:00 and 2:00 (in the summer).
It tries to synch at 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 and then following day at 0:00 and 1:00 (in the winter).

Sync icon represents the successful synchro in last cycle.

So if the watch synches at 0:00, it wont try at 1:00 and 2:00 (in the summer).
But will try at 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00.
If these three attempts are unsuccessful, there will be no icon.

    Cheers, Piowa

Huh, thanks for the explanation to both of you.

Sorry, I keep reading this over and over and still don't understand.

What is up with the different sync times summer and winter and different sync times on consecutive days?

I'm confused too. I think that when the original atomic G-Shocks came out, the only time that the synch icon didn't show on the LCD display was when the watch synched with the atomic time only, but not the date. I could be wrong about this, but I think that the Rangeman works the same way when it synchs. You see the "received" because the time synched with the atomic time signal, but it did not synch with the date. I remember that this thing about the synching icon not appearing used to also be mentioned in the older atomic G-Shock owner's manuals too. Maybe someone else in here can also chime in on this too.

Let's call it "Casio daily synchro cycle"

It looks like this in Europe (MAD, PAR, ROM, BER, STO):

    Summer (DST on) - 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 0:00, 1:00. 2:00
    Winter (DST off) - 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 0:00, 1:00

Re: Why is my Rangeman not showing sync icon even though it syncs at 0:05-ish

Looked at the Rangeman manual. (I know, a novel approach! )

It says that for auto-receive, it will automatically attempt signal receive operations up to 6 times/night, from midnight thru 5am, on the hour. If one of the receive attempts is successful, it will not perform any other auto-receive ops for that day.

Doesn't say anything, that I could find, about the lack of the receive indicator even if a successful receive OP was done. I'd bet it has something to do with what Hoss said. The watch probably synced the time successfully, but not the date - and probably both are required for the receive indicator to show up... Can't prove that, but it makes perfect sense.

I think Piowa's explanation makes more sense, especially with the table he's provided. If the last synch time is midnight (and not 3, 4 or 5 AM), it means the watch hasn't received the signal in the last cycle. Therefore no synch indicator.

I guess what I did not understand that the sync 'cycle' does NOT begin at midnight, uniform, across the globe. Which still personally puzzles me why, but never mind. It is sort of like the question what day does the week begin, Sunday or Monday.
