    Why shouldn't I get this?

I'm looking for a bang-around tool watch. Tell me why I shouldn't get this MTG900DA-8V.

    Tough Solar: checked!
    Atomic: checked!
    Clear display: checked!
    Well constructed: checked!
    Sturdy bracelet: checked!
    Reasonably priced: checked ($70 shipped)!

Or should I just get a GW5600J and call it a day? Similarly priced from the same seller.

If you think you have a better idea, I'm all ears.
Buying more watches does not buy you more time.

Looking for: Seiko SCVS013; Citizen PMX56-2811; Citizen Campanola CTS57-0701.

Personally and it can only be that way
The Black one is better than the silver model which will in time short or otherwise wear and then it will look bad, the black one however will stay looking good for much much longer.
So if the costs are close then go for the black model.

both models are great, i guess it just boils down to your own style.
but then again, you can always buy both.

    My two cents: GW5600J

The resin bands are much more comfortable for me. And black just holds up better to wear than other colors. But I also greatly prefer the look of the 5600 models as well. There's also lots of variations to chose from.

The official WUS slogan should be: You Can Always Buy Both!

This isn't advice, it's a kick in the ass toward bankruptcy court.

In my opinion you should get the GW5600. It has clean and simple lines. I like it a lot. I'm a 5600 enthusiast.

The lack of countdown timer on #1 tells me you should go for #2. And #2 is thinner, meaning it won't get hung up on clothing, or banged into as many things .

I have the first one and love it. Unless having a countdown timer is important, I can't think of a reason you shouldn't get it.

Yeah, I thought about that. But the only time I'd use a countdown timer is when I run--during which time I use a Timex Ironman with a heart rate monitor anyway. So, it's not that important to me. The one thing that I dislike about the 5600 is that it doesn't display the day and date at the same time. To get that function, I'd have to go for a GWM5600--which costs 3x as much and harder to find. Hmmmm...
