    You're probably better placed than most to assess its relative cost in the only domestic market on which it has been released.

    Its solar atomic and also its case and caseback is DLC coated. DLC is very expensive stuff and makes the surface of the metall very scratch resistant. DLC comes in different grades and I do not know which grade is used on the GW-5000, but even the cheaper grades is quite expensive. DLC alone probably adds another $100-$150 to the cost of the watch, thats how expensive it is. Another factor is that its made in Japan and that increases the cost of manufacturing compared to if it where made in Thailand. Its simply an exclusive modell made mostly for the collectors!
