    Will a Gshock outlast you?

I was just wondering the life of the resin that makes Gshocks. Will it one day disintergrate or something like that? I am curious cause I remember taking the bezel off one of my older G's and it cracked a little. It made me think of the longevity.

Anyone had any experience with this or seen any studies?:thanks

It's called resin rot. I've seen it on a very old 5600 from a thrift store (the one with the CR2320 battery).

    Here's a link:

Problem with resin rot is that when the bezel falls off the buttons stick out and snag on things. On some models they can be ripped completely off, others the pushers get bent. You can't buy a new bezel now and store it for that fateful day because it will crumble just sitting in storage. Your G will not become a priceless family heirloom like a mechanical could, but they're WAAAAAAY cooler gadgets.

I wouldn't expect more than 20-30 years from the electronics either.

I often stop at thrift stores to see what gems people don't want. It's quite common for me to find watches from the 80s and 90s that only need new batteries. Usually if it needs more it's because the previous owner opened it and messed it up. I do have one of the original Casio databank calculator watches from 1987 from a thrift store in excellent condition running just fine with a new battery. It's the one with 2 screws in the back and NO world time or countdown. I've also got a touch screen databank with a scratch on the screen, the touch screen doesn't work, but the chip and everything else works fine. Amazing that something like that could ever work.

If you keep your bezel clean it will last longer.

For what I know, there is lifespan for LCD. The LCD number will become fainter and eventually gone after very long time of usage.

    I don't think a G shock will outlast me.

Pals, if my G-shock or Protrek has calendar for 2099 I think then it can survive 100 years or more...or maybe forever because it's quality is the best. even better than expensive watches...so, well I'd say you can keep your G-shocks with you for the rest of your life

Yeah, you're right, my DW-5900's lcd dial is also fading away, any way to salvage it?
