A man wearing a watch, outside of purely social functions (where, strictly speaking, a watch is not supposed to be worn), makes it clear to everyone in his purview that they are in the presence of a man who considers his time something of value, not something to be wasted.

A man wearing an ostentatiously expensive watch makes it clear to everyone in his purview that they are in the presence of a man who considers little.

I thought the same sort of thing until I saw the second one in person. It's bolder than any pictures I had seen and not toylike at all. It doesn't look like a "serious" watch of course but it's got a full on fun "let's have a 4th of July (Veteran's Day, Labor Day, President's Day, Flag Day - you get the picture) backyard BBQ" vibe to it. Pictures don't do it justice.

I haven't seen the first one in person and even if I had, the question remains....

How did the one gain the nickname but the other didn't?

Several have had the name attached to it, but the GDX is the Capt. Just as the GA-110CS-4A is the Ironman. It was nicknamed by Casio employees. As told by Sjors, whom I trust and believe.

I see. Hmmm, I would argue that the face of the DW-6900AC-2A follows the color order of Capt's shield more than the GDX. However, Casio called it, not me. The GDX is certainly harder to find as a result.
