    Wisdom of 5600C Refresh

I've come across a 5600C "refresh kit" with a replacement bezel, strap, screws and pins. My 5600C could use a facelift on the bezel after nearly 20 years. I was thinking of getting this kit and doing it myself. How wise would that be? :-S I might as well change the battery while I'm at it. I'm reasonably "mechanical" but have never opened up one of my G's before. Any recommendations one way or another? Or should I just send it off with the parts and get Casio Sales and Service to do it for me? :-S

Changing the bezel and band is a breeze . All you need is a philips jewelers screwdriver to remove the 4 bezel screws. Once the bezel is removed, access to the band's spring bars is easier. Just be really carefull removing the bezel screws, you don't want them to break off in the case. Go slow and check their resistance, if they don't want to budge, remove bezel with a razor blade or exacto knife. Once bezel is removed use a lubricant to soak screws and attempt again. I use a watch case removal tool on the case back, but if possible try the duct tape method. A competent watch repair shop could change the battery and seal for $5 and not scratch the back cover. If you feel apprehensive send it to Casio. They will perform all and a pressure test, might be a good deal.

    Happy Hunting.

I usually tear off the old bezel to get a good look at the screws. Then I shoot the screws with a penetrating oil that will not harm rubber because of the buttons and back seal. I shoot the screws and let them sit for a long while. Then I easily back them out. You can tell when one may break off,so I go back and forth with it for a while. When I put them back in,I use anti seize compound on the threads so this is never a problem again.

Thanks for all the pointers. I've ordered the parts and once they get in I'll see if I can work up the courage to tackle this! I'll go slow. Because once done it'll look brand new again. It was my first G and I wore it religiously for nearly 10 years, so it has some wear, but I love it! It deserves a makeover. :-D

    Hi,

In the vintage models its recommendable not to clear the screws.Yes.

You can put new bezel without clearing the screws.
When clearing it you can break it.:-X
