    for you dw-5000c-1a owners

How often do you wear it? and do you treat them as a rugged G shock or something more fragile?

I just picked mine up, and it had a couple of scratches, so I put on a scratch protector screen thing, and I feel very cautious with it. I personally don't want to put on the screen protector, but i plan on keeping this watch for a long time and want to preserve the crystal as best as i can because I haven't found a place or solution that could replace it.

How do you guys view your 5000c watches, and how do you handle them?

also, should i do a water resist test?

    Thanks for your input.

I don't treat my good/mint condition DW-5000C or other vintage G-Shocks as fragile and wear them like any other watch but I won't wear it for sports or other activities with an increased risk of impact. I tend to use beaten up vintage 5000/5200/5600's for these activities, or a cheap modern model like the G-7700.

Despite what people say that G-Shocks should be worn and abused and so on, it really is not worth risking damage to a rare model when a replacement will take a few months to source and is likely to cost north of $400.

I would only do a water resist test if you intend to submerge the watch below a few meters.

If you get the chance I would recommend picking up a face protector.

how did you get the new crystal? did you go to a watchmaker and have them replace it? and if so, is it still waterproof?

+1. Although G-Shocks are said to be tough and can take impacts on all sides (except the crystal), they are not supposed to be tortured deliberately just to find out just how tough they really are. We know that the crystal is the most vulnerable part and Casio should start thinking of using unbreakable material to substitute the glass, for example, lexan.
But it's good to know from guys here in the forum who were brave enough to demonstrate the way they punished the G's.

The Lexan idea is super smart. I really like that. Lexan is also rather hard to scratch and can be polished. It may well be cheaper than mineral crystal, too. I wonder why they never had that idea. I also wonder whether something like that would be possible as a modification. Probably not easy at least.
