They are vastly more available than replacement G bands, for one thing.

One one-piece dive strap is generally more secure. If one of the spring bars pops out, the watch still stays attached to the wrist, so the watch doesn't get lost.

Buzzbait's right on. I use them when diving for that very reason - watch retention. I can't recommend them enough - and they look great!

I also think they are cooler (temperature-wise) than standard G-Shock straps.

In order of importance (at least to me):

    1) Comfortable (I know...you already said "other than comfort and fashion," but that's reason #1 regardless)
    2) Durable (the resin straps wear out fairly quickly based on my experience)
    3) Practical (I've also lost a watch when the spring bar popped out with the resin strap...don't have to worry about that with a Zulu)
    4) Looks (not that I'm a fashion nerd, but I think the Zulu strap just makes for a better looking watch...I've also got one for my Seiko SKX173)

I prefer these straps also for the feel and look. They add a whole new look to a watch. I would love to put one on my new gulfman. Anyone know of a source for adapters that work on a gulfman?:thanks

I'm with you when it comes to Zulus on G's; I think they look kinda cheesy. On the other hand, I am a die hard fan of Zulus on analog tool watches; trasers, seiko divers, etc.

Note that there do exist two-piece "zulu straps" so I don't think added retention is an accurate blanket statement about the benefits of zulu straps in general.

See http://www.broadarrow.net/maratac.htm for an example of the many varieties of zulu straps available.
