    $4000 Choice

I am going back and forth between a new IWC Portofino/stretch budget Portugieser with the rose gold hands or a used TT Datejust 36 as my everyday watch. I tried both on and liked them a lot, but both are very different looks. I can only get one and I like the Datejust better but also like the IWC being new. Also like gold on each as it ties in my gold wedding band nice. Thoughts?

Used TT Datejust may hold value better. That said, I don't think SS watch clashes with gold ring but it is just me.
It would be FAR easier IMHO to get Datejust and MAYBE swap over to IWC later than getting IWC now and trying to get DJ later as new IWC will lose value quite quickly as all new things are.
Also, get what you like which in this case is DJ.

    I agree with hpark21.

I also would say that a DateJust is more versatile, with superior water resistance, if that is important to you.

The DJ is the one I’d go for.

USD$4,000.00 is a good budget for an everyday Watch.

You could buy one of these brand new, and have change!

Great suggestion dantan, I was going to say how about one of these 114200? They’re only 34mm but you could also look at the 36mm 116000 model. You can find them brand new close to you budget grey market or easily within budget gently used. Tho if it’s just the choices you listed I’d go with the DJ

    Great suggestions, Toothbras.

The 34mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual wears a little larger than its size suggests.

I have tried on 34mm and 36mm Rolex Oyster Perpetuals, and there's hardly any discernible size difference between them.

    They are lovely Watches.

In the world of watch collecting, one rather important point is to listen to your heart--you answered your own question in your original post: "I like the Datejust better"--go with that.

Relax, sit down, have your favorite drink. If you like cigars, smoke one. If it is available, admire a lovely view. Feel your body relax as you calmly breath in and out. For about 10 inhalations repeat these words, "I want the DJ". Just do it.

Knowing what you want and going after it is a great feeling.
    Have a nice day.

Not the IWC. Datejust by a mile
