    Picture *TUXEDOS* and $300 Watches

    FIRST CLASS MAIL...
You receive a cream-colored gold-embossed envelope, you open it and it's a formal invitation to attend a black-tie affair.

Which $300 watch would you wear to this black-tie gala dinner???

    Something vintage.

    A couple of modern options.

Something with very simple black dial, black strap and a touch of gold. A tux is a formal understated way of dressing up and you don't want the watch to be the center of attention.

I like the idea, but is a vintage Omega Seamaster truly a $300 watch?

All of the vintage Seamasters I can find are $800-1300.

Some good suggestions above. I always go vintage... (in my case a mid-sixties Hamilton)

I suppose it falls to me to be that anal-retentive bastard and say:

    NONE

It be the heighth of rudeness to weareth a watch to a formal, 'black tie' event....eth (:P)
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-
But if you must, anything will do, so long as it isn't seen.

    Mai opinion anyways :P

    =-=-=-=-=-
    EDIT:

Now, thinking about it on more practical terms, I suppose that if I was in a hurry to purchase, and no delicious vintage specimens became available, I'd probably go with one of the PVD'd Skagen quartz models: like this one from amazon (80USD isn't bad).

Small, slim (to fit perfectly under the shirt cuff), black (blends with the get up).

It's coating is unassuming and does not not draw attention to the wrist as something shiney and silvery/glittery would.

If it's a formal event, I would refrain from anything too gaudy and big. Women have the luxury of purposefully drawing attention to themselves at such events, men don't (why do you think they all have to wear the same thing?).

If it's one of these 'new-age' events, attended by all the sorts of fashionistas that defile black-tie and dress entirely for the camera, sure, wear that Hublot BB or Zenith Defy-type watch.

Again, that's what I would do.

Probably the best time for one of those 'stealth' or 'phantom' type watches I guess :)
