Thumbs Up 1 Week on the Wrist and I like 36mm Watches Again

This last week my family flew in for the baptism of my baby girl. On the day of her birth, I was wearing a midsize Aqua Terra 2504.80, which at the time I was thinking would be a good watch to hand down to her - something she would see me wearing while she grew up, as well as something she could wear when she grew up. For the first couple of months though I struggled to find the opportunity to wear it - the thing was just too damn small on my wrist!

Back to this week with my family on extended vacation. I was sort of forced to wear the midsize AT because I wanted all the pics of the baptism with me in it to show I was wearing her birthday watch. And lo and behold I became acclimatized to it. In fact 36mm I think now is the perfect size watch for the man who does not want a statement on their wrist. Not girly at all, perfectly right sized and elegant.

To make sure that this was not just a passing phenomenon, I put on my almost never used Explorer 1016, also 36mm, and hey it looked great on my wrist! OK, I'm a convert!

Wait, you just have an Explorer sitting around that you don't wear?! You are a tougher man, than I.

Good to hear. I'm currently wearing the same AT:

Got any pics of yours and the 1016?

It's surprising how your feelings towards a certain size can really adapt after a few days of wearing the same watch.

As long as your wrist isn't large, there is nothing wrong with 36-38mm. As you mentioned, the wrist presence won't be there, but the comfort might actually be better.

My preference has slowly moved towards the smaller end of the scale, finding that 36-38mm is the most comfortable.

I see 40mm as my perfect size, but I'll go down to 36mm fairly happily, especially for dressier watches. (Not below that, though.)

I tried the same thing, however, I was unable to get accustomed to the smaller look of the midsize SMP. I think the larger face of the AT and 1016 stand a better chance of feeling more in place though. Congrats!

37mm -- I really dig the subtlety. <--- "Subtlety" is a really awkward word.

Wow I'm really digging that white dial alpinist! I've never seen it before

Nice Aqua Terra, been eyeing one myself in that size! Once the Tudor BB36 is released, it's going to be a tough choice between that or the AT...

Must be something in the air -- I too recently decided 34-36 mm is not only very comfortable, but looks good too.

    Here's today's 35mm example.

And as for the question whether "men these days" can pull off smaller watches, I'll let this Rolex ad do the talking.
