    18K gold practicality

Long time lurker first time poster here.
Some high end brands use 18K gold as case material. Since 18K gold is soft and can be scratched easily, - I am wandering how practical is it? What is your experience have been?
    Thanks.

    It all depends upon you.
My gold watches are just fine...Once watches were gold or silver, b/4 SS.

I have found that although gold scratches far easier than steel it wears those scratches better.

I have a few in 18kt. Never had a problem with them scratching too easily. I don't wear them to do yard work or work on the car, but other than that, I take no special precautions.

    Wear them in good health!

It is more practical for dressier watches. Not a fan of gold tool watches.

Gold is a soft metal so it will scratch and deform more easily than steel, but it's an inert metal so it won't oxidize and won't cause allergic reaction. Point being, there are advantages and disadvantages to every material.

The same observation could be made about any gold jewelry, and it doesn't seem to stop people from successfully wearing other gold jewelry.

That said, yeah, gold is softer and it's something to be aware of.

Gold works fine. I suspect that many of the folks who like to criticize gold, rarely have the same comments about white gold or platinum, so I assume it's really about the color.

Thanks for your input Gents. I guess it should work out fine since it will definitely not be a daily beater. Now, all I have to do is put my pennies together for one ;)
