    Advice on Gold Watch!

Hey guys, I plan on getting my first watch and want to spend around $500. Personally, I like the way all gold watches look and would like a solid gold one, but for now I'll have to stick to cheaper alternatives.

I really like this watch and I can get 30% off which brings it to around $500.

Its a Burberry The City, gold tone Watch from Macy's (I can't post links)

This classically designed timepiece from Burberry gleams in golden color. From The City collection.

    • Gold-tone stainless steel bracelet with deployant buckle (6-9/10" L)
    • Round case, 38mm
    • Light trench dial with hydraulic-stamped check pattern, gold-tone indices, three hands, date window and logo
    • Swiss quartz movement
    • Water resistant to 50 meters
    • Two-year limited warranty

What do you guys think about that one for a man? Are there better looking gold plated watches for around my price range?

Could you recommend me an all gold looking watch between $200-500? I just want to get a nice looking quality watch for special occasions.

Shop around and you'll get close to 550. Mechanical, automatic movement.

Where are you located? In the US, you can easily get a solid gold watch for $500 (vintage mechanical or used quartz). If vintage mechanical, you may need to service it in the near future.

Yeah, look into brands like Rotary. Careful with used though. Also, nothing wrong with quartz.

I cannot in good conscience advise anybody to purchase a Burberry watch. Also according to your specs the watch is gold toned stainless steel not actually gold plated.

USA. Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. I can't post links yet to show what kind of style I'm looking for, but if you're familiar with the Rolex Day Date with presidential band, thats the look I'm looking for.

Does it have to be gold tone? In my eyes there is nothing tackier than fake/plated gold. I'd stick with steel or buy a vintage piece in real gold. As for a Day-Date President there really is no replacement it's all or nothing.

I have just the thing, Tudor Prince Oysterdate. I got it for a little over your budget @ $600. Not solid gold, but gold capped (as opposed to plated, capped has a visible thickness that will most likely not wear down). I may have been lucky with this find, but you should give it a look on watchrecon or ebay:

With a another $40, you can get a plated band:
