advice wanted , responses given , but OP goes missing??

It's a small irritation i know but i have seen it quite often, if i were to ask a question or seek some help in some way from other members i would find the time to come back and respond to any member that took time out to help . Often , a question is asked and then the OP just literally disappears , its irritating certainly but also very odd behaviour . think it's basically just good manners ,is it just my bad advice / imput or have you experienced this also.

It's not that odd. The world is full of people who just want to use you.

Hate to say it but I've done this on maybe one occasion, two maximum. I did it because I honestly forgot I posted that thread, and weeks will go by and by then it's too late for a follow up.

My guess, somebody has a question. They're too lazy to use the search function. Join, post a thread, let you do the work, then have no interest in sticking around. I'm guilty of it a time or two on other forums.

Possibly got a lot to do with the fact that the majority of people who ask for recommendations have no intention of buying anything but want to impress people with their potential purposes.

I have stopped commenting on what should I buy threads and this is one of the reasons why.

If I respond to an OP's question, I don't expect them to confirm that they've read what I've posted, nor do I consider it poor form if they don't. On a related matter -- if someone asks a question in response to a non-OP's reply, I think that is best done by PM. I often don't return to a thread after I've shared a thought, but on a couple of occasions when I have, I've noticed that someone has asked me a question and it appears I have purposefully ignored it.

I disagree with you and I agree with Shameless. The difference between contributing to a thread and then forgetting to go back is one thing - you don't always expect any response to your contribution. Therefore if you miss a question in reply to your contribution then this is quite acceptable on a busy forum. However if you are the OP and you are directly asking for feedback/advice/help then you should expect replies and go back until the thread has run its course with thanks or further responses of your own. That's just manners.

Shameless - I remember posting this up as one of my pet peeves. In fact I got rather irritated (and am still irritated) with one prominent member of this board who asked for advice on a thread that lasted ages only to never return with a resolution. It's just crappy manners and, whilst I will continue to respond where I have something to add on threads that ask for help or advice, I have a few people I just do not engage with anymore as their attitude and manners stink.

I think people, and society as a whole, is becoming more rude. It's easy to blow off people on the internet, but a "thank you" is a gentlemanly way to handle the situation.

It's happened to me a few times and reckon it's just the nature of the thing. I'm generally still glad I tried to help.

Yeah, that happens often. OP asks watch purchase advice/suggestions, get 3 pages of advice / suggestions never comes back.
