Ever since I first saw it I've wanted an Oris 1945 LE Flight Timer. They were a limited run of 1945 units back in 2005 to comemarate the 50 yr annivesary of the end of WWII.
A fellow member alerted me that a store in Atlanta had one & was going out of business & giving incredible discounts.
I called them up & they did confirm that they had the watch. But would only take a phone order with an AMEX & would only ship it to the billing address of the AMEX. No problem, I don't have an AMEX, but the Mrs. does. After 2 days of persuation, I convinced my wife to give me her AMEX so I could order it.
I called them back & asked a few last questions: Did it come with everything (box, extra bracelet, strap change tool & propeller)? - No, it came in the box, but didn't have the extra strap or the propeller
I found that wierd, since I asked them if they were AD's & they did confirm they were & that the watch was brand new.
Well, I decided what the hell, it's a great price for a watch of a limited run of 1945 units.
I gave them all the info & I decided to ask them at the last minute to make sure that it was the 1945 flight timer & not the R4118 flight timer (also a LE but of 4118 units) since I found it strange that being brand new from an AD it did not come with everything. Turns out it was the R4118
While still a great watch at a great price, it was not the watch which I have been after for about 2 years & had my heart set on. I'm not going to buy one just to buy one.
so dissappointed, it's like a little girl being promised a pony on her birthday & then showing up with a donkey
