Alternatives/upgrade to the Omega Aqua Terra 2500 black dial?

Hi all, I've had the black Omega Aqua Terra 2500 Coaxial for a few months and love it. So far it's been the perfect daily wearer for both casual and business, but the collector in me is curious if there's anything else to consider. Looking for the following:

    - 38-40mm black dial, dressy, no bezel/chronographs
    - Date complication with black background
    - Comes in a bracelet but can also wear a strap
    - Can swim in it (100m+ water resistance and a screw down crown)
    - From an established brand, Omega or an upgrade
    - Something with an interesting movement (e.g. in-house), AND a display caseback to appreciate it :)
    - Generally in the $3000-6000 range

Only thing I can think of would be something from Grand Seiko (Explorer 2 does not have a display back). Any other suggestions?

Grand Seiko is always a good answer.

Do their watches in the size and price you want have screw down crowns? I have only owned a Hi-beat which had a screw down crown but was above this price range (very slightly) and a limited edition automatic which is smaller (37mm) and has no screw down crown.

I am sure there is one which meets your needs though, and it would be a very good watch.

I would caution against replacing something you think of as the perfect watch though! Those don’t come along very often. In fact the only two I have ever had which I would consider close to perfection are Grand Seiko I have owned. I can find a fault with any watch and I do wish the movements were a bit more decorated. I wouldn’t say they are badly finished because the level of finish that goes into the functional surfaces is amazing, and the decoration they do is very well done, I would just like a bit more decoration (if I were being picky).

You do realise that the AT is often my go to answer for this sort of question so someone wanting to step up from one creates a few problems for me. I can’t get past thinking about a GS.

Being an Aqua Terra fan myself, I can’t think of anything I’d want to upgrade to other than a Grand Seiko myself. However, I prefer the quartz SBGX models which don’t have the display back. The AT is a tough act to follow.

Seems like the Grand Seiko SBGH205 meets all your criteria.
It has black, sunburst dial, that only GS can do at this price point, a screw down crown, 100m water resistance, has an exhibition back and a superior, high-beat movement.
