    Ana-digi recommendation son's watch

My son wanted a watch, so my wife got him a $40 ... I forget the brand. He doesn't like it. He said, "I want one like dad." So, it is now my job to get a watch, which I would have gladly done the first time if I'd known he wanted one.

He was referring to my daily beater, a second gen Black Monster on a Super Engineer II bracelet. I immediately thought about the Stargate II. The problem, he wants a digital watch. I am thinking an analog/digital might be the best bet. Maybe I can slowly wean him from the digitals that way.

Any ideas on a solid built, metal watch that resembles or has the same vibe as a monster?

Also, I am currently stationed in Japan. So, I would like to get him something harder to get in the U.S.

I don't have experience with these particular Freestyle watches and I don't think their current offerings have quite the same quality as they used to back in the 90's and early 00's, but these seem to fit the bill:

    Amazon.com: Freestyle Men's FS84946 The Precision 2.0 Classic Round Analog-Digital Dual T...: Freestyle: Watches

    http://www.amazon.com/Freestyle-FS84.../dp/B004JHDSBS

    Amazon.com: Freestyle Men's FS81242 Shark x 2.0 Ana-Digi Polyurethane Strap Watch: Freestyle: Watches

    http://www.amazon.com/Freestyle-FS85...f=swr_wa_2_ses

I currently have two of their digital watches, the Mako and The Stride. The Stride is one the more current offering. The quality seems pretty good, but the watch light stopped working. That said, it's my most accurate watch, including compared to my other quartz watches. It keeps near perfect time, probably close to a high-accuracy quartz.

If you've got a healthy budget then a Breitling Aerospace would be my choice.

I think you missed the part where I mentioned I wear a Black Monster. ;) But ... dammit, I want that watch now.

I went with a Casio LCW titanium. I'm holding it for an Xmas present. It seems well built. I picked it up at a shop near base for about $200.

Yea when I saw the thread title I was instantly thinking Breitling, they have a solid lock on the analog digi combos and actually make them look ok, but the O/P didn't elude to that being a realistic price point. Also, as nice as they are, I would never spend that much on anything but a true analog auto...

+1 for the first casio posted, that is a classy digi.
