I got a great deal on my Breitling SuperOcean Professional auto because the seller misspelled "Bretiling." So it had no views or bids. It was a 0 feedback bidder on ebay, but after having messaged and spoken with the seller on the phone, I decided to roll the dice with paypal. It still came with box & papers, I paid well under $1K.

Since BUSA in Connecticut serviced it I'm 100% certain it's genuine, & it's like brand new now.

I knew a guy that had this homeless looking guy ride past his place on a bike, he knocked on my friends door and said he had found a watch in the gutter outside his house. My friend said it wasn't his and the guy who found it said to keep in case the owner turned up. Now it turns out that this was in fact a Rolex Datejust. My friend took it to the Rolex AD and got it verified that it was indeed genuine.
He then turned it in to the Police, waited 100 days(or whatever it was) and then was legally given the watch after it was unclaimed. He didn't like it so he sold it on ebay for about $3000. With that he finally purchased an engagement ring for his impatient fiancé . Unfortunately they never got married and I have no idea of who has the ring!

he should have gave the money to the original founder without even thinking about it. Especially since it seems that guy needed it more than him!

Yeh, I reckon he had a fair idea of what the watch was when the guy gave it to him. He reckons the guy got on his bike and rode away before he could get his details. A pretty lame excuse i think.

Not a cool story but the best I could do: On a recent deployment I heard an annoying beeping sound and traced it to a discarded digital Casio with a broken strap lying in the bottom of a trash bin. I rescued it purely out of horological compassion and will put it on an old nylon strap that I have sitting in a drawer.

I have no need for a cheap Casio on a nylon strap but I couldn't just leave it there in the trash. That would have been wrong....

Re: Anyone got any cool "I found a watch" stories?

When a relative of mine passed away several years ago I received a bunch of ladies watches.
I knew that they had been purchased from the TV Shopping network and the local mall so I put them aside for awhile.
They were overly tacky, blingy ladies watches mostly from the 1970s & 80s, the best of which appeared to be one of the Swarovski crystal brand.

About a year later I picked them up but one of the shiniest caught my eye so I took a closer look.

I think I have read about this brand 'Gruen' I thought. Didn't look particularly old or anything.
So I picked open the hinged back with my fingernail.

Oh HO! That is a hallmark for platinum!

Research revealed that the face of the watch has 42 diamonds on it also...

4 Sapphires, a hand-made jewelers (not platinum) bracelet with crystals.

I am told that in the 1920s when this was made that was a common practice.

I was surprised to say the least that this had been in a junk box!
