Thanks in advance for looking at my post. I have a Marathon Automatic (2005) that I purchase a few months ago on Ebay. This is the GSAR and of all the watches I have I really like this one, though I still really like my Tag Heuer Super Professional and my Hamilton BelowZero. Recently the seconds hand fell out and I sent it to marathon to fix it. Since I am the second owner, and the first owner did any maintenance, I knew at some point I would have to get it service. ITs around $470 to do the following
*Standard Service Diver Automatic Movement Replace Hands - 3 Hand Set Replace Dial - Optional Replace Bezel Insert - Optional
They told me that
- When the hand set is replaced, the dial is recommended to be replaced as well so that the illumination I son par between the two components.
- The new dial will have more divisions between hour markers.
My watch is pictured below on the left, what would look like after service is on the right
So here is my question, I know that the tritium tubes are at least 12 years old so they are probably a lot dimmer then when it was new. Also the bezel is pretty beat up so adding that these gives me almost a new watch. What would you do, would you replace the bezel and the dial if you were replacing the watch hands so they match. Not that this matter as I don;t think I would sell this but does it bring down the value of the watch long term. Any thoughts would be great
