    Avoiding fakes

I'm in the market for a Raymond Weil 7800, but my mate has had a few really good fakes, so it's scares me a little, any advice?

Buy from an Authorized Dealer or if from a private seller, check out his/her reputation. "Buy the seller" as it's called.

^ this ^. If you are not comfortable playing in the secondhand and grey market, then don't. It will be more expensive, but what price do you pay for confidence.

    Re: Avoiding fakes

There's no 100% way to avoid fakes. I've received 2 fakes the last couple of years, but it was OK as I was protected by Paypal.

To make sure you can recover from receiving a fake, use a safe payment method like Paypal. I will never buy from anyone via wire, unless I have a personal sales history with them. Also, buy local. Easier than having to send a watch back overseas after having paid potential customs duty.

To avoid receiving a fake in the first place, buy from a verifiably reputable seller.

Wouldn't an AD or a sponsor from this forum be the safest bet?
