Ball Engineer II Pioneer (old style) or Marvelite?

    Hello Ball fans,

I went through a phase of wanting a Pioneer a few years ago and now it seems that particular config. has been discontinued—replaced by a new iteration that is now a milgauss with larger numeral tubes. For me, the symmetry of the dial has been seriously compromised and I'd look for an older model.

BUT, would I tired of the dial? Is the Marvelite (same watch, really—same case, COSC, Cyclops, etc.—with a different dial) the better, more "timeless" choice? I'd be grateful for the community's thoughts on this. And if any of you are itching to move on from your Pioneer we ought to talk!

Have good days, all. My thanks in advance.

I have a Pioneer with the black dial and stainless steel band and I love it. The two biggest things I like about the Pioneer over the Marvelite are the tritium tube colors (blue, green, yellow) and that there are tubes in the numerals, which I think is really cool. It keeps very good time (COSC) and I can wear it in just about any occasion. The Pioneer is hard to find how (as you mentioned its discontinued) but if you do find one, you're most likely going to get a great deal on it!

I will admit I like the Engineer Marvelite M a LOT! Maybe in the future I'll add it to my collection...

Its a tough decision but maybe if you try them on youll be able to tell which one you like more. Good Luck! Either way, I don't think you can go wrong!

You might consider reposting this in the "Ball" forum on this site if you don't get many responses.

I used to own a Marvelite and it was a great watch as well. Tritium is fun....

Pioneer is cool and would be more unique.

Even though they have gotten a bit carried away with the number of models over the years, IMHO, their build quality is most excellent and very consistent.

    No wrong choice.

Thanks for your response, Nokie. You know, I actually looked for a Ball forum and skipped right over it. I'll repost there. Good suggestion. And thanks for your encouragement! FH

Many thanks for your comments, '89. I, too, am attracted to the colors of the tubes on the Pioneer. We'll see what I come up with. I'm going to repost this in the Ball Forum. Perhaps someone there would like a trade! FH
