    Battery life in quartz models

Why does it vary so much? I have a Rado which got a new battery in August 2017 and I'm wondering when it will run out. Unfortunately, I don't think it will give some indication as other watches do when the battery is nearly dead.

I've also got a couple of solar watches and I believe their capacitors are good for 10 years plus.

I'm just surprised it varies so much on each watch. I believe some manufacturers use different sized batteries and I've heard of Casios running ten years on a single battery. I wonder if any watch can beat 10 years.

I tend to prefer quartz because my Tags needed adjustment every time I picked them up, and I wasn't about to invest in one of those automatic winders. It's so much easier to just pickup and go with a quartz watch.

Different watches have different size of battery and also depending on construction (jewel/no jewel), high torque motor and complications (stopwatch, alarm ,light, HAQ) may consume charge at different rate.
Same watch with 2012 battery instead of 377 will have 10 year life instead of 5. Same Swiss made with 5-7 jewels will live almost twice as long as 1 jewel plastic fantastic watch with same design.
Solar watches if not discharged are good for 20-40 years.
Older are 20+ newer are 40+
    Just keep it charged

Size of cell and its output, power requirements of the watch to operate, and whether or not you regularly use additional features (alarm, chronograph, backlighting, etc).

So my Tissot could last 40 years? I won't be around them but that's pretty impressive. My Casio G-Shock is from 2013 and only occasionaly (mainly in the winter) the power bar meter has gone to medium. I then put it on the window sill for a bit.

I've never had a 10 year battery life on anything. I've always taken for granted that it's just a marketing scheme. Are there "better" batteries for watches out there?

Casio 10yr battery, top level Swiss made ETA/Rhonda claim 7+ years on one cell in their premium calibers. Timex is 7 years on regular watches.

Bigger ones. Casio fits bigger cell in regular quartz. Also new digital watches are more "fuel efficient"
