    Baume & Mercier 8689

    Hello,

    I posted another thread in the wrong forum. I am wondering what are your opinions about the Baume & Mercier 8689? Are there better out there for the price? I am looking for a dressier watch. Thank you.

    There are better B&M, I'd say keep looking

    The Classima Executives line has a lot of beautiful models. I have a white dial 8735 model but I haven't looked closely at black dials like the one you show.

    Here is mine:

    Have you tried it on? Personally, I found that the open balance wheel made me dizzy every time I looked at it.

    I actually bought the 8732 model (white dial, central seconds, no complications) because in the end it really just appealed to me more. There may be "better" watches out there, but after your AD discount, B&M is a very classy, dressy option.

    Oh great point about the fly wheel. I didn't really stare at it much. Sorry, I'm new to the forums. What is an AD discount? Thank you.

    AD = Authorized Dealer.

    Depending on the dealer you purchase your watch from, you can usually negotiate a discount of some percentage off of the retail price. Shop around and get a sense for how much the "real" price of the watch will be. Depending on the brand, discounts can go as deep as 25%, 30% and even 35% off retail.

    Oh okay thank you. Also, do you recommend buying online? Or is it just plain unsafe?

    Also, I see a lot of websites say the band is a leather strap with a crocodile pattern. Others says it's a crocodile strap. Which is it?

    I was hoping to find a watch with a clear back. The 8735 looks amazing. I might get it but it would be a huge bummer because there isn't a window on the back. :(

    Edit: It seems like the new one comes with a brown strap, transparent back, and blue hands. I was hoping for black strap, black hands, and a transparent back instead.

    It means the strap looks like a genuine croco but it isn't.

    I've long been a fan of the Classima line. I bought my first, an 8591 chronograph, a few weeks back. I personally prefer the closed dials as they are more legible and more classic. I find the fit and finish very good, and the aesthetic design is flawless. One grey market dealer is selling these at around 50% off right now. I think they are extraordinary watches at this price. My only gripe is that the crown is very narrow and can be difficult to wind.
