best time to buy now? (posted in middle of Jan)

I was wondering if any think that the best time to buy a watch on ebay is during the first month or so of the year. My rationale is that many are still recouping from the heavy spending from Christmas, and that more people would be looking to purchase a watch during the summer months (short sleeve weather). Has anyone noticed any correlation between ebay prices and time of year?

I didn´t notice any correlation between ebay prices and time of the year. If you compare the prices (as I sometimes do) you`ll not find any correlation. Just an example:

    Rolex Ref. 14000 (Air-King)

    Ref. 14000
    2.050,00 EUR
    (July 02)

    Ref. 14000M
    2.100,00 EUR
    (November 02)

    Ref. 14000
    2.100,00 EUR
    (June 03)

    Revue Thommen Cricket

    961,23 EUR
    (January 00)

    950,00 EUR
    (August 02)

    1.124,84 EUR
    (October 01)

    989,00
    (November 04).

There´s always at least one buyer who wants the watch

Buying a watch on ebay is like tip-toeing through a minefield, and it's
not like tip-toeing through the tullips.

I have to agree. There is no way I would ever buy a watch on eBay. There are just too many con artist out there and eBay is their playing field and they have the advantage. Look at all of the complaints on these forums about getting scammed on eBay. People think their are policies in place to protect those who have been scammed and there are. Just try going through the hoops to get your money back. The sorry thing is, normally it is your own credit card company that throws you through these hoops.

I have sold a couple watches on eBay and I will not even do that anymore. It is just a headache. Tons of requests for more info or more pics which I can understand due to all of the frauds there. It is just a hassle that detracts from any profits you might make. The biggest complaint I have about eBay is if you list something, you receive tons of requests to end the auction and sell it on the side. I absolutely hate when someone emails asking what the reserve price is or if I have a "buy it now" price. What is the use of an auction if you give away your buy it now price or sell it on the side and still have to pay the fees. eBay was nice in the beginning, it is now just a Scammers Mecca.

I forgot to add to my other post that I feel the best time to SELL a watch at least in the U.S. is February or March. People have that tax refund in their pockets and it is just burning a hole there.

I have found the best time to BUY one normally in October or November when someone wants to get some quick Christmas cash or right before property or income taxes are due.

I still buy on eBay, but with a few "rules". Most of the time I use Buy it now-if I like the price, I buy-if I don't then don't bother with the item. As far as auctions, I let my sniper software do the work. Why bother bidding when there's time left for someone to bid one increment higher and "steal" it? I've lost almost every item bidding early and it's a waste of time. Also sniping makes shill bidding harder. You can't shill a bid that's not there. I won't buy anything that's very expensive on ebay. If I were to buy the Ball Fireman or something in that price range, I would buy elsewhere. Feeback also plays a big part in it. If a seller has less than 99% positive, I usually stay away. And the last but not least important rule---check prices elsewhere. Many times I've found an item for less $$$ at Wal Mart, Amazon.com, or another place.

I've always found that the best time to buy a watch is when my wife says, "I like that one".
