    Best Watch Movement Under 1,000.00

I keep seeing "which watch should I buy" threads, but I thought for me at least it would be interesting to change the conversation starter a bit.

Given a budget of 1,000.00, no used watches, and given the normal mark downs one can expect from an AD. What watch will have the highest quality movement (automatic or Mechanical) under $1,000? How much better a movement could you get if you pushed the budget to 3,000 or 5,000?

Call me crazy but style is rather secondary to having a movement that is low maintenance and extremely accurate.

If accuracy is what you want and you get atomic radio signals, then its hard to beat a radio-controlled watch in terms of accuracy. Precision for those watches doesn't have to be that good to maintain a decent level of accuracy. For example, my atomic Casio G-shock isn't known as a precision quartz but because it syncs every night to WWVB, I know its time is accurate to the second. And only for $80.

Well, I asked for an accurate automatic or mechanical movement. I don't know what it is but 90% of what I like about a watch is that there isn't a battery. Once you add a battery to me, it's just jewelry.

Mechanical technology is very mature and there isn't a big difference in reliability with any mainstream movement. I'd just look for an ETA Top or Chronometer grade and let it go at that. Not sure if any are available in watches that sell for under $1000. Other members will know more than I do.
