I also disagree with the idea of Breitlings as 'cheap looking'. I don't own any, but I see them all the time at work and got to play with a friends' Colt GMT and they seem nothing but solid.

Having said that for $2k I'd probably go with the Aqua Terra. It has a maritime sort of inspiration to it, which makes it nice as a casual watch, but it is conservative enough for meetings. Plus the movement is a bit different from the standard ETA types with the escapement/balance modification by Omega. It's above your target at MSRP, but I think you could get into your target zone with a good dealer -- ask around on the Omega forum for a forum recommendation.

Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish. Not too large for medium wrists, great quality, accuracy and reliability. I'd also look at the Ball Hydrocarbon Engineer, the 100 Fathoms model from Bathys Hawaii. The Bathys is a diver without the usual large bezel, and comes with a variety of dials, like black lip pearl. Also the Benthic from Bathys is an understated diver that looks good in any enviroment. Good luck, there are lots to choose from!

Lacking the panache and reputation is a plus for me.

Take a look at the Anonimo cronoscopio. great looking watch. Lots of class. Not a watch people see everyday. I would definitely say sport or boardroom, and you can get it for under $2000.

What about an SMP...either the black one I have or blue. You can get these new for well under $2k. Very accurate and can go with any attire IMO. I love mine:
