    Biggest Watch Lies

"Buy a Rolex, they appreciate in value."

    No, seriously, they don't.
I bought a SD in aug. of 07 for 5300, minus 12%, then +7% tax.
Buy em anywhere now for 4 to 4.5k.
That's fine, I love mine, not selling.
It's not anywhere near as accurate as either of my Damaskos but hey, it's a Rolex.
I'm a big Rolex fan, happy camper, but don't believe the bs.
    Omega re-sale is much worse.

Excellent advice for non-flippers, all 4% of collectors.

well not that I've owned many high end watches, but given my financial situation, I've owned a little expensive watches and NEVER ever sold a watch..now i have nearly fifteen, mostly quartz but excellent watches...never bought for re-sale consideerations and been happy always...re-sale is only a factor thats going to keep you worried and you'll never fully enjoy your watch...just my opinion...

adding to the topic, some poeple even have other weird watch lies like: a Rolex is made by hand and stuff like that which is not true but Rolex has such a brand name that its all accepted...thats funny :)

I would never buy a watch and then flip it. Whats the purpose of that? Watches are meant to be rocked not kicking it in a watch winding box. Whatever I've bought is what I want to keep, unless my rotation gets too big and some watches does not get the time they deserve then I would sell it.

Rolex and Omega aren't so bad. Try Tag and Oris! The resale value is almost none existent!
    Current Rotation:
    Rolex DSSD
    Rolex SeaDweller 16600
    Rolex Submariner 16610 "LV"
    APROO Rubberclad black
    APROO bumblebee
    Hublot Ice Bang
    Hublot Tantalum Bang
    JLC Amvox 5

    Garage:
    14 Maserati Ghibli SQ4
    15 Porsche 911 S
    16 Range Rover Sport

I hear ya Tragic - but that's still less % drop than your Damaskos would be at point of sale. And less of a loss than I took on my Navitimer which I flipped for a Rolex DS recently.

We must allow for crisis facing industry and the mess the markets are in - in the last 18months, some property values have dropped by 40%! In a massive recession, even Rolexes take a hit.

As others have said - we should buy watches because we love them and not as an investment.

Seiko Kinetic-- never need to change the battery.

I bought my Kinetic Auto Relay in 2000/2001 and the capacitor couldn't hold a charge for one day by 2007. I sent the watch in for service, and it cost $75 to replace the capacitor for a newer-generation Li battery that'll need replacing in ~8 years.
    My Collection:
    Casio G-Shock GW-M5600-1CR
    Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay 5J21-0A10
    Seiko SKX031
    Seiko blue Atlas SKZ209
    Seiko Spirit GMT SBQJ015
    Seiko SKX781 Orange Monster
    Seiko SCVF001 titanium diver
    Seiko SBDX001 Marinemaster 300M
    Grand Seiko GMT SBGM027
    Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic
    Rolex Explorer I 114270
    Rolex Submariner-date 16610
    Omega Speedmaster Professional 3570.50
    Stowa Flieger Original 1
    Stowa Marine Original
    Stowa Marine 6425
    Tudor Pelagos 1
    Tudor Heritage Chrono

    1) Importing a tritium-tubed watch to the US without a permit is illegal.
Meaning: Buy only from US ADs where you have to pay a 50% premium over non-US AD prices.

    2) We stand behind our product!
Meaning: We stand behind our product only if you are the original purchaser.
