    Birth year watch: check! :))

I've found it the official mougino's birth year watch!

A splendid Seiko Type II from 1979, in great condition: nice 40 x 35 mm TV cream dial with a slight patina, perfect black stick indices for an outstanding legibility, the crystal might need a rub of Polywatch otherwise it's totally acceptable, and of course it's a quartz so I've set the day and date once and now it's a grab'n go! and cherry on the cake: it comes with a perfectly sized vintage Seiko-signed bracelet!

I'm on my little cloud right now!

And without further ado, some pics:

Nice pickup! I’m still hunting something from ‘87.

Thanks, I found mine on eBay. I was lucky enough because I knew I wanted a Seiko Type II as they were only produced between 1976 to 1984, with a peak in 1979. Less than a decade for production means it was "fairly" easy to spot a serial number starting with "9" = no other year possible than 1979... :)

    Good luck in your hunt!

That's a cool concept I haven't really thought of before. Time to start searching for a nice piece made in 1980. The way the vintage 60,s and 70,s are in right now it actually might be even cooler in a few years when the industry moves on to the years of Max Headroom, neon lights and Night Rider

Man, that watch is really cool! I’m into this idea as well.

    Off to find a 1984...

    Sexy watch
I'm '76 but if I'm going to get a birth year watch, which intrigues me, I want it to be something that's not very expensive or expensive to maintain.

Thanks, that was my motto as well. Vintage 1979' Rolexes are pretty easy to find (e.g. on Chrono24) but fairly pricey... and at this advanced age they require a full revision every few years.

Vintage Seiko 5's can be found easily for a specific year of manufacture, but if you don't wear it everyday it becomes a hassle to set both date and weekday every time you take it out of the box.

With this specific model, I get the easiness of quartz setting, the retro look, and the sweet price (I snagged it for less than 100€). If the movement dies, I should be able to find a replacement for not too much dinero ;)

I would totally get a nice quartz. It was that era. I'd even get a freaky digital one.
