Birthday present / "going out" watch for brother (help him up his style)

So, this would be a nice watch to complement jeans and a nice button down shirt. He currently wears a GShock DW-5600E. Great watch, but wouldn't call it chick magnet by any means. Anyway....Steel bracelet, 40-42mm. Budget around or under $600. Was thinking about something like the Steinhart Ocean1 vintage red. Thoughts??

not so much in to that, looks like a sub knockoff and I would not want people asking me if it was a sub all day if it wasn't... Check out hamilton, they have a lot in that price range the jazzmaster comes to mind. Tissot should do it as well. It might just help him with his lady gainz.

Personally, I like the Steinhart but it is very "Rolex-ish" (not sure if that's good or bad).
Here's a Tissot option in the dive genre. Currently available from Jomashop for $635:

That is a good choice and it can span from jeans to a suit.

There are a few watches in the similar driver category. Armida, Commando and Raven come to mind.
    - I have an Alpha watch ( the Planet Ocean version ) and it is a good watch for USD$ 110.00 delivered. Some versions of Alpha watch models can be had on the sales forum here fairly cheap.

Don't worry about what watch it looks similar to.
The decade + I have owned my 16660 Sea Dweller so far, one person asked me if it was a sub.
    - General people on the street do not pay attention to watches as much as WIS think they do.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I like the Steinhart too, but don't want to put my brother (31 years old) in some kind of "wanna-be" category. While watches like that Visodate are very nice, I know he will want something a little more sporty. Will definitely check out that SeaStar.

About to check out the CWard and Hamilton websites and see what looks good. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

Edit: And just wanted to add that I'm not opposed to quartz.

If name recognition (which in and of itself tends to be a heated topic) is not important, I'd have a look at some of the "micro-brands" as well. If you search the term you'll find some threads that list many of the brands, such as Ocean7, Boschette, MKII.....or check the dive forums. You might find a nice "stand-out" piece that's a bit unique.

Name recognition can help with the ladies though, kinda crap but it does often work like that. I'd agree a Tissot would probably be appropriate

Probably no man in the history of the world started dating someone who wouldn't have ordinarily dated him, or kept a woman who would've otherwise left him, because of a Tissot. Ever.

I think this looks like a cheap copy of a Rolex Sub. A new watch will not directly help your brother with dating. But, if wearing said new watch gives your brother a bit more confidence, then it may indirectly help him.

As for a suggestion? If your brother has a sporty style, you may want to look at some new-old-stock Oris watches. There's a big selection out there, and with some searching one could be purchased for close to your budget. Even most of their rubber-strapped ones look nice enough to "dress up," especially with a button-down and jeans.
