So I’ve been looking for a diver and I had set myself a 3k budget. You know how it goes though, only took a few days and I’ve warmed up to the idea of saying “screw it” and totally blowing the budget. Now I’m thinking of a second hand Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 5015 or a Rolex Sub 116610.

    So which would you get?

They would be basically the same price. I have nearly an 8” wrist so the BP doesn’t look over sized on me at all. Both look good on the wrist, Sub on the smaller end, and the BP on the higher end of my comfort zone. I would expect some will point me to the new SeaDweller but I just can’t stomach the 12-13k they are going for right now. It’s not letting me attach pics but oh well. So what do you think?

If you're happy with the size of the FF then I'd say go for that all the way.

Save some money and purchase a Rolex Submariner 114060:

Totally subjective, but to me the Sub is ubiquitous, bland, copied by the container-load and consequently I find myself yawning every time I see one. My money would be on the BP FF. Keep the eye-watering servicing costs in mind for both, though.

I would get the BP as they are far more exclusive!!

Everyone has a Subby (Including me)

Plus they have a fantastic divers heritage.

For a unique, heritage steeped, iconic yet under the radar, best looking (some say) modern diver on the planet, go with the Blancpain FF.
For a robust, reliable, bullet proof tool you can wear anywhere, be recognized anywhere, and flip in a minute, go Rolex sub.
If it were my decision here’s what I’d do

Each of us is "unique", but not that watch.

You have enough wrist space to acquire FF, I think it’s a noble diver.

I have the Sub and although I'm not thrilled with the watch, I do feel it's fairly versatile and I don't worry about bumping into things so much.

With the BP, I doubt I'd want to wear it daily and in as many situations as the Sub. Even though I prefer the FF.
You're either qualified or not qualified

    FF service $580, Rolex ~$700.
