bought a stuhrling skeleton on a whim, received it today...

    what have we here?

let's slip it out of it's outer cover...

    alright, let's open 'er up!

not bad packaging i suppose. let's get it out and lay it down.

...and now let's get it on and see how it looks

purchased it from amazon, somehow it was $169 when i glanced at it the other day, i had seen it before but never that low, decided to pull the trigger

overall, have to say so far fairly impressed with the quality, heft and look of it. the numbers are actually under the crown and the angle of the picture makes them look slightly off-kilter; this is not the case, everything lines up perfectly.

i need to figure out how to take a good up close pic of it, i'm not sure any of the pics really do it justice, particularly for the details.

it also has a see through caseback (actually you can see straight through most of the watch) and other details which i'll hopefully snap a few pics of tomorrow or sunday, preferably in natural light

here are the details from amazon, the model is a "winchester" skeleton:

    Brand Name: Stuhrling Original
    Model number:
    165.331554
    Part Number:
    165.331554
    Dial window material type:
    synthetic-sapphire
    Clasp:
    Buckle
    Case material: stainless-steel
    Case diameter:
    41 millimeters
    Case Thickness:
    6 millimeters
    Band material: crocodile-leather
    Band length: mens
    Band width:
    22 millimeters
    Dial color: gray
    Bezel material: stainless-steel
    Bezel Function: stationary
    Movement:
    automatic-self-wind
    Water Resistant Depth:
    165 Feet
    Warranty Type:
    Manufacturer, 2 years

this is a general purpose beater, not my work watch or my dress watch, i think it should fit the bill just fine

OK, you asked. Not my cup of tea. Use the search function re Stuhrling watches. The "Affordables" would be the right forum to post.

what don't you like about it?

i am involved in the stuhrling thread over there in "affordables" but thought i'd get a broader range of viewpoints here in public.

it's a beater and i didn't expect much, so as a result have been pleasantly surprised with it

it'll tide me over until i finally decide to pull the trigger on a truly high-end timepiece, likely either the ball moon glow or omega speedy pro... altho the wife thinks the tag carrera is the most "elegant" of the ones i've looked at and prefers that.

i see how this hobby can easily become quite the addiction thankfully i have great fiscal discipline

I do not like skeleton watches. It does not matter if they are called Stuhrling or BRM.
The most important function of a watch is for me to "see the time", and this is made very difficult on these watches.
Yes, it is fun to watch the guts of it for a few minutes, but still!
But, heck, $169, when you get tired of it or it breaks down - which ever happens first- just bin it without feeling any guilt!
If you like it - good!
    Enjoy it!

i never thought clarity would be important on a watch, but I just bought the first watch that I struggle to see the hands on clearly.

I could see having that problem with a skeleton as well.

Honestly not my type of tea either, I enjoy looking at them and this one looks really nice just not something I would wear.

Oh and my post never get love here either :) I really am a nice guy I promise... tough crowd I guess.

That's not true for all skeletons. I would not buy a skeleton w/o minute indices because as you say I wouldn't want the primary function of a watch relegated to visibility of its movement. This Android skeleton I've attached has minute indices and is easy to tell the time. Its 2824 movement is the most accurate watch I own and I enjoy seeing its workings because it's common to so many watches out there, including my own.
