"Others" seeing the brand name on my watch would be of no concern to me.
First, I don't remember the last time anyone even commented on my watch.
Second, If I like the watch, the fact that someone else may, or may not be impressed with the brand is the last thing on my mind.

For me, the aesthetic value of the watch is more important to me. If I like the way the watch looks, and the way that it feels on my wrist then its a winner for me. Putting the horology aside, because you are paying for that, there are very few "expensive" brands that I would buy. Of the expensive brands, the only one that I can 100% say I would buy would be an Omega Speedy. The fact that it says Omega on the dial has nothing to do with it, but the fact that it was the first watch on the moon.

In the 10 years or so that I have been wearing watches daily, I have maybe only received 10 or so compliments on any watch I've owned, so to me that says that people rarely even notice your watch, and if it is a lesser know brand, have no clue as to what it is anyway.

I can fully understand why people will buy a certain watch to send out a certain message. Take a polished Super Avenger for example. That watch says a something about the owner, without them even opening their mouth, because it is so big and shiny. Can the same thing be said with a lesser known brand that sells a polished chrono for $1000? Probably.

I agree that if you give someone a Patek and a Rolex, the non-WIS will think that the Rolex costs more, buy that is simply marketing. And there aren't many companies that market better than Rolex.

But then again, if you have to judge your self worth, or feel as though your self worth is being judged by others, simply by the logo on your watch, then there may be bigger issues at hand.

I think it is fair to say the brand name, logo and model name all play some role in the decision to purchase of any consumer product including watches. For me the watch branding is down the list. At the top of the list are things such as I have to like the style, finishing, features and the fit. And the price comes into play.

the brand name on a watch is something i can search for, and find more informations about the manufacturer and the overall quality of the brand
having 2 watches with the same design, i would clearly take the one of the brand with the better reputation
but the design is what im looking for at first

    Looks.
    Specs.
    Quality.
    Price.

The last two coincide with the brand name as I know company x,y,z produce better quality watches than company a,b,c albeit at a larger premium.
    Just getting started.

My Rolex only comes out for one reason: To impress and/or intimidate dimwits. These days that usually means pulling it out and wearing it when representing a client before a federal bureaucrat of some sort... usually from Justice or Agriculture.

I never wear my Rolex around people I respect.

who made the watch matters a lot ... having said manufacturer/brand visible on the watch = dont matter none

that said, I'd still buy a $5 watch just because I like it

the design is primary, and the brand name is secondary; brand name is important however.

Re: The brand name on the watch. How much does that influence your choice?

When looking for a new watch the first thing I look for is the brand name. How else would you know what you are getting for your money? After buying many watches in my lifetime and being both happy and disappointed with my purchases I have now settled on a very limited number of brands that to me epitomize the art of fine watchmaking. Those brands that I do buy from have horological histories that interest me and build watches that have, to me, intrinsic value. I wear watches from brands that most (non-wis) people have never heard of so their quality, history, value and price are mine alone to enjoy.
