I would like to say NO But i have to say " YES " coz for me its imprinting for my childhood , " Casio " when i was a kid they only made calculators and damm good ones but now i couldn't wear a watch with Casio on the dial , YES they do make excellent watches and there are a few i like aheluva lot ! but i couldn't buy one .

The same for the brand Honda when i was a kid they only made motorbikes and yes some great bikes but a car with Honda badges ? to me its just a four wheeled motorbike ! couldn't own one so i think its a case of typecasting for me !

    Sadly, yes.

It goes, Brand -> Design -> Cost

There are brands i will never buy, (eg, Gucci, Burberry, DKNY etc.) because i perceive them to be less 'worth it'. Therefore, even if they had a design i really really liked, i might even pass.

On the other hand, i have brands that every model seem like a winner to me. Cartier is one of them, i have 3 and eventually i will be getting a 4th.

I don't quite buy it to impress people, if i did, i'll be better off with Rolex.

It absolutely does, whether positively or negatively. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to himself.

How did it get so late so soon?

I'd say it does to a point for me. I mostly own one vintage brand for three reasons - I find their designs rather timeless, little brand recognition (compared to others), and it's what my father wears. I find it's relatively similar to people choosing automobiles - brand loyalty and experience plays a large part in choosing one's car.

It has some impact. I buy themed watches. they are spread out over several companies.

i definitely chose watches by looking at the name first. The brand name has a reputation which will either be good or bad.

As I understand the OP, the question is if the brand name should appear on the dial face. I would say yes, no matter what the brand, from the Alpha to the Omega, it should be on there. I am always curious when I see the sterile dials as to who the maker of that fine-looking watch is, and adding the brand name would not take away from the look. But then once I would know who, it would influence whether I would want that watch a good deal. Certain brands equate to high quality.

While brand definitely plays a factor for me, the biggest factor for me when I purchase a watch is the overall design/look of the watch. Even the movement is secondary for me.

Brand name doesn't affect me except that some brands are a known quality which means a lot to me. Brands that have a track record for quality. I started with Tag when I saw an ad for one in a magazine. Since that watch I have gone the other way with my Stowa and Damasko because of the unreal quality but relative obscurity of the brands outside of forums like this. I am not saying I won't buy more well known brands but it's not really that important to me.
