    Brand turn offs?

Are there any brands that you find yourself automatically dismissing when you are looking for a new watch?
    What are the reasons?
The two that spring to mind for me are, I am sure, entirely unfair on my part.

Rolex - purely based on the people I know that wear them.
Grand Seiko - I can't take the brand seriously based on nothing other than the name.

I realise that both of these are entirely unreasonable, but I can't be the only one with such prejudice?

For some reason I can't see myself buying a watch that has a first and last name. Raymond Weil for instance. I don't know why this is.

    Re: Brand turn offs?

So far I have not found a brand where all the member watches should be dismissed simply because of the name. I try to assess each watch on its own merits. To do otherwise would guarantee that some very interesting watches would be ignored for some baseless preconceived notion.

No - in fairness to the OP I think the question he poses is a different one to that of which brands "self sabotage". This is more a question of what really turns you off from a brand (self inflicted or not). Just my take but wouldn't moan if the threads were merged either.

I agree. I am not suggesting for a second that I SHOULD dismiss Rolex and Grand Seiko, just admitting that I do.

I don't understand why, but..you are free to do so. I just hope this thread doesn't veer in a distasteful direction.

    Re: Brand turn offs?

Have you ever met anyone in life, off the bat, you just don't like him/her? (or celebrity even)

I have and here isn't much logical reason WHY. The feeling is highly personal and judgmental. Not always base on what he/she do or say to me.
Interest enough, some, after I get to know them better, they became my friends. Few, never will be.
Watch brands to me is like that.

+1, I'm pretty much the same, and I own a Jorg Gray too.
