Breitling Airwolf v. Anonimo Cronoscopio Mark II

Comparing Breitling Airwolf and Anonimo Cronoscopio Mark II.

I'm looking for a big bold contemporary-looking watch.

Airwolf: A great way to get great features and exceptional accuracy with great presence. My only problem with quartz is the ticking second hand which often doesn't align properly with the markers.

Mark II: I love the first rate case work and Kodiak straps from Anonimo. I also like Anonimo's short but interesting history.

I realize some people don't like Anonimo, claim it is Panerai derivative, or that the Anonimo line has confused styling. On the other hand, the Airwolf seems to be one of the least popular Breitlings. But I love both these watches. Which do you prefer and why? Please don't pull any punches.

I quite like the Anonimo but then I don't have a Panerai hang-up. I don't know that much about Panerai, and aren't really that interested in learning more, so taking it at face value I'd say the Anonimo is an interesting, and individual, choice. I suspect you'll only really get the "it's a pseudo-Panerai" from the Panerai crowd.

But your criteria are big, bold and modern, and to that end I think the Airwolf nicks it. It's as contemporary as it gets, with exceptional accuracy and a movement that is several steps up above the quartz you'll find in any other mid-tier diver, for example. And that's without considering the dials and backlight. The design is a bit busy for me, but it's certainly bold. I've noticed inaccurate second-hand line-up on analogue-only quartzes such as Tag and Omega, but the old B1 looked spot-on to me and I doubt the Airwolf is any different.

Having looked at countless Brietlings over the years it is one brand that just don't set my pants on fire. Good watches, well made etc. but I just don't like the image they give - a bit 'gangsta', a bit 'look at my watch' (my opinion, without wishing offence to any Brietling owners). My understanding of the expression 'Bling': ostentatious or vulgar jewellery, comes from a corruption of the word Brietling - B'ling.
The Anonimo otoh I feel is understated yet powerful, extremely well finished and produced in very limited numbers so you know you have something special on your wrist. You are not likely to come across another person wearing an Anonimo, let alone a Cronoscopio. As for the Panerai connection - more fool Panerai for leaving Florence.
And No!, I do not work for Anonimo.

I do not care for the symmetry on the Anonimo - 2 screw at 3 o'clock and 1 at 6, 9, 12 o'clock. Nit picky, but bothers my eyes visually for some reason. If you want bold go with the Breitling, pretty busy looking. IMO.
Better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done...

I enjoyed your post, Moonrat. Sometimes I feel the same way about Breitling. Some of the models lend me to envision slick guys with greasy hair, open shirts, and pinky rings.

But don't forget that Breitling also makes serious tool watches such as the Aerospace and Seawolf. And the Navitimer on a leather strap is an under-stated classic. Not every Breitling means vulgar ostentation.

Me thinks you have Breitling mixed-up with Jacob.

Thanks for your input. I went with the Anonimo. Here's a wrist shot.

You chose the right one it looks great on the wrist

The Breitling looks like a Sekonda I bought for my son last year in an Argos sale for £39.99 the main difference was the Sekonda has a blue dial.

Wear & enjoy in good health
