    Buckle Watches

    Hi,

I'm new, so bear with me till I learn the ropes!

I have recently acquired two belt buckle watches, and I know absolutely nothing about them. Is this the type of thing I can seek information on?

One is a Tresa, 17 Jewel watch. It is about 1 inch square when closed. It seems to be in good working condition. The top looks like a vinyl material made to look like leather. The other watch is a Doric in a stainless case. It is also about 1 inch square when closed. It also seems to work.

I am sending a picture for reference.

    Thanks,
    Maryann

    Hello Maryann:
I don't think those little gems are belt buckles but rather miniature travel clocks. The portions that appear to be loops for the belt are actually legs for the watch to stand on.Nice pieces though.

The belt buckle watch was, as far as I know, invented by Hermes, the high-class leather goods manufacturer of Paris. Once closed up, the watch glass was supposed to point towards your navel and be protected by an inner metal sheet in the whole construction. I agree that those things look more like miniature travel clocks.

    Hi,
Hartmut and Ray, thanks for your replies. Eventually, I will be able to put the bits and pieces together if other good people will share with me!

    Thanks,
    Maryann
