    Busted: Groupon watches

Groupon inflates prices to make deals look better? No way!BUSTED: Groupon And Living Social Caught Inflating Regular Prices To Make Deals Look Better - Business Insider

Today's deal of the day is an incredible 94% off Louis Bolle watches.

Groupon claims that these Chinese watches are worth nearly $3,000! What a deal!

Anyway, on a serious note, this should be against the law.

A Groupon retailer commented below the article. This is what he said.

I own a chain of optical stores. I am always running "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE". The public is so stupid that they never wonder what the price of ONE is. They see the FREE and have orgasims.

I also jack up my prices at back to school time and then give great "discounts" for kids and families. Come back in December when I am starving and you will be able to get the same thing for far less. Threaten to walk out and go to my competitors and my prices will really drop.

    The public is stupid.

Eh, those're kinda neat watches. I'd maybe pay $100 for that.

This is no different from what Invicta does with its perpetual 90% discounts. It's scummy and I do think there should be a law against it (there probably is, actually). But, the buyer has to take some responsibility, too. In the end, there is a purchase price, and a product. If it's worth it to you, then buy it; if it's not, then don't. If you make that purchase, you're saying that you thought it was worth it. All the sales and promotions in the world won't change that you thought it was worth paying that much for that item. Ultimately, responsibility for the purchase falls on the buyer (as it always does).

For educated consumers like us, true. But what about senior citizens who are overly trusting and others who are less knowledgeable. I still think it is disgusting and I will not buy anything from Groupon since most of what they sell falls into this category.

Save $2700?!? Great! I need some cash to pay some bills, I'll buy one of those, and with the $2700 I save, I can pay the bills! If I buy enough of them, I can buy a new house with all the savings!
