Buying an AD's one remaining watch in the display case

I'm looking to buy a new watch, but the AD has only one unit left: the display model in the glass case. Undoubtedly many folks have tried it on their (sweaty) wrists.

Is it usual for one to buy that last unit if you really want it? Presumably the AD would rub it down well with a cloth before I complete the deal, yes?

As long as it's in good condition, I wouldn't worry. Many of the watches I've bought were the only ones in the case.

Besides, the ADs I've been too are pretty meticulous about keeping the watches in good shape (gloves, using soft surfaces, etc.).

Wouldn't worry about it at all, just visually inspect it. You can ask how long it has been in the case. If it is months+, then maybe you can get an incremental price consideration. If they just got it in stock, then likely not.

My experience is that most ADs don't get may of each particular model. This is particularly true of smaller manufacturers. In short, I wouldn't worry about taking the unit in the display case. Assuming it's unmarked and scratch free, I'd do it.

Only thing to watch for is if it's a black dial. If it was stopped for a long time in sunlight the part of the dial under the hands may not have faded, and look a bit like a shadow. Might ask them to throw in a new strap.

Not if it's a hot watch.

If it's a hot watch, then it probably wouldn't have been in the case for months.

Then that would depend on location and price.

Ask them to order you a new one, should be fairly quick.

Just inspect it closely for any scratches or marks. If you find any just have them order you a new one.
