    Can't decide... please help...

    Hi All,

I am looking to get a watch that I can wear to the office. We go smart casual, with occasional suits and ties when we have visitors. I would like to get something with a moonphase and something in gold; however, I do not have the funds for a real gold watch. I have narrowed my search to the following and would like to hear your opinions on these two:

    1. Frederique Constant (rose gold plated stainless steel case)

Size: 137.4 KB

    2. Maurice Lacroix

    Name: ML_2.jpg

Size: 235.7 KB

As I have never had a gold watch, I am leaning towards the FC; however, I am very concerned about the quality of the gold plating and how it will stand against the test of time. Does anyone know how good the FC gold plating process is? Is it a simple one layer gold plating or do they use multiple layers? How quickly or easily will the gold plating wear out? There is nothing on the FC website on their gold plating process.

Thanks in advance for your help and comments.

(NOTE: My apologies for using pictures from the web, rather than my own)

I love that FC and have wanted one. However, I'm not sure I'd get the rose gold as I don't have/can't find rose gold buckles for my belt. Yes, my fashion sense drives me to that, though I guess (given the lack of RG accessories) I must be one of the few that worries about it. Personally, I like to match leathers and metals. For that reason, I'd suggest the SS version of the FC.

The ML is also nice looking but to me the fact that the FC is an in-house design makes it more interesting (unique) to me. I'm not saying it's better, just that it's a little more unique. Realize, that may be a problem when it comes time for service, though. Your servicing options may be a little more limited and expensive.

Both are great...I can find no fault with either, except the gold plating issue.

I much prefer the look of the FC, but gold plating for a daily wearer would worry me...

I prefer the FC by a mile but regardless of how the plating might wear I wondered if it was a little "dressy" for casual occasions?
