I am looking for a new watch and want either a Tank Solo ($2500) or a JLC Reverso ($4200). Since I want prefer a quartz model, I was wondering if a quartz JLC is worth the extra money. These are both the low end basic ladies quartz models.
I would choose the Tank. It’s more iconic (imo) and I do not like how the JLC sits on the wrist. Plus the pricing difference is not even close, and if it was I’d still choose the Tank
EDIT: She'll know what a Cartier is, and more importantly, her girlfriends will know what it is. The Reverso - unless they're watch people - will leave them scratching their heads as to why you "cheaped out" and didn't get her Cartier. (The presumption being that Cartier has more name recognition and thus, must be more expensive. )
Unless you are purchasing high-grade quartz watch, like a HAQ, assume that the movement is pretty much the same, and is most likely outsourced. So really, you're paying for the outside and the name on the dial.
Don't have much experience handling either, but I would guess both are about the same in finishing (used have a JLC). I would go for the Tank because it is such an iconic watch (and it truly is iconic).
Tank, for me. However, IMO, the Tank is a dressier look and less versatile. The JLC (especially on bracelet) would be fairly dressy and more of an everyday watch. I'd save the extra money. You could buy a decent $500 to $1,000 watch as a sportier, everyday watch, if you think you need one, and still be money ahead.
I would recommend the Cartier Tank Francaise instead, which is a classic choice for a ladies watch. I find the Cartier Tank Solo to lack the refinement of the Cartier Tank Louis Cartier.
I appreciate the feedback. I decided on the Tank Solo. I am pretty excited! I really like the fast change straps. I got two (blue and black) and will add a few more colors in the future!
