Casual Watch for a College Student

Hey everyone, I recently became interested in watches and I am looking for a watch to buy. I am looking to spend around $60-%100 for now. I am only a college student so I'm not looking for something very expensive or fancy. I came across the Invicta 1203 II and it looked decent. Do you think it's a good watch? Any opinions or suggestions on which watch to buy would be greatly appreciated!

It appears that Amazon is virtually giving those Invictas away so can't argue against the price. However before committing yourself it would be worth checking out the range of Seiko quartz chronographs to see if there is anything that takes your fancy. They have a somewhat better reputation in terms of quality control and reliability.

I would like to direct your attention to Japanese watches. Automatics in your price range are the Seiko 5 series and lots of Orients... and quartz models you should look into Citizen. They are 'fueled by light' and usually have lots of complications like the watch you listed. Finally, search the forum for "Invicta" and you won't have to read too many threads/posts to get an idea what most people around here think. Never tried one personally, and don't want to if it means anything to you.

casual watch for college students ... just a beater? an every day wear?

    what about Fossil?

also take a look at some grey market shops (Jomashop, thewatchery, etc)

or look through ebay and search for 'vintage swiss watch'

    I'm a college student as well. I picked up a Seiko SNDA67.

[Photo Courtesy of WUS. Seiko SNDA57 pictured, the only difference being the fabric strap instead of a metal bracelet]

It was $110 shipped from an online retailer. I also bought a sailcloth leather strap from F&E straps for $16 shipped. I plan to toss the bracelet when the watch arrives tomorrow. Seiko has an incredible cost/quality ratio. I would place it several classes above Fossil and Invicta. There plenty of stories of lemons from those retailers..however, its much harder to find one involving a Seiko or Citizen.

If you can't stretch to a Seiko SKX007, go for a Seiko 5. Under $100 and a reliable timepiece. Invictas are largely junk.

this may or may not pertain to you but a digital watch was very handy for me- exact times, stopwatch (for parking meters), alarms, etc.. But if thats too casual for you then look at citizens and seikos-lots of (mostly quartz) watches in that range and lots of different styles
