    Certina: movements and watches?

Newbie question: I have seen a Certina watch being sold, and described with great respect, and also the ultra-exclusive Premier watches use a number of Certina movements: who are they, or were they? What is especially good about them? When did they go out of business, and why?
    Thanks a lot,
    David

Certina still is in business, their own movements date from the 70ties.

Here comes a more elaborated answer:

Certina goes back to 1888 when Adolf and Alfred Kurth set up the Kurt Freres S.A. In 1938 the name Certina was created as the new brand name, a name that could be pronounced in all languages. The name CERTINA derived from "certus" (sure) and got protected 2nd oct. 1939. From 1959 on the "DS" became the leading model, DS stands dor double security. Certina currently is part of the Swatch Group, a "DS" model still is made.

The most known movement was the cal. 25 which at that time was the most produced automatic series movement (1960 to 1980). The cal. 25 will easily concur with ETA movements even in our times.
