    Christmas ruined by poor quality

I start this thread by wishing you all a merry Christmas and a restful holiday.
My partner decided to surprise me this Christmas by purchasing a new watch for me which I had admired for some time. I thought this was extremely nice as it showed that she had taken notice of what I had been admiring and kind of set my heart on as a new direction for my collection. I have always been a fan of Panerai, Glycine, and Rolex amongst other well manufactured pieces and I am lucky enough to own watches from all these manufacturers as well as Seiko. As times have become slightly harder and my tastes have changed slightly I fancied delving into the lesser well made but nice looking Market so I chose a Swiss Legend Trimix which I admired to look at but fully understand I am not going to be as pleased with the build quality than my other watches. The Trimix arrived in time for Christmas day which really was a total surprise for me I was so over the moon to receive a new watch on Christmas day, I was like a child opening the box. The appearance on first glance was very good and I was amazed at how nice it looked in the flesh for this price point however,! I noticed marks on the underside of the crystal which I knew would annoy me in time. I did not share this with my partner as I did not want to upset her lovely surprise so I kind of thought oh well I will live with it. I have worn the Watch for 3 days I love it and I ignore the visible marks however, our cold climate has now raised a further more serious issue! STEAM! Going in and out of a few stores from cold to warm conditions have caused the crystal to completely steam up on the underside it has made it unreadable! This news I have had to share with my partner to which she became very annoyed and upset. I have emailed both Swiss Legend and World of Watches to see what they will do about it and I am awaiting their response which I will post up once I receive it. Now I fully understand that these watches are never going to come close to my other watches but when you part with $160 including our taxes you don't expect a watch to last 2 days not when they claim a 220 metre water resistance which we all know is only ever going to be 50 metres at best. What do you guys think?

I'll be interested to see the replies you get on this.

A 220 metre watch shouldn't steam up. There are no excuses for marks on the underside of the crystal. It may not be an amazing watch - but it should come in perfect new condition.

You and your partner have my sympathy. Let's hope the dealership/manufacturer simply replaces with a new watch immediately.

A fogging crystal strikes me as a rather small problem and not one that should ruin the celebration and enjoyment of Christmas or the pleasure one should get from receiving a gift from a loved one. Hopefully your problem will be resolved before New Years. The watch was probably assembled in a humid asian location. You could solve the problem by simply removing the back and storing the watch in a zip lock bag with dessicant for a couple of days. Or let the seller try to sort it out.

You are correct to get upset...even at that price point. When a $20 fashion watch will outperform yours that is a clear indication that something is wrong. Bottom line is any new watch should work as advertised. Period.

I dont know first hand about the quality of Swiss Legend watches. Ive read that the build quality is like that of the other affordable brands. The Trimix is a good looking watch and I think World of Watches will exchange it since you owned it less than 30 days. They always answer the phone and their customer service is excellent.

I would have sent it back as soon as I noticed the marks under the crystal. Luckily though the Boss understands my insanity and she would be totally alright with me sending it back for a cosmetic flaw, no matter how minor. In your case, having dealt with them before, I think that World of Watches will take care of you.
    Cheers,

It was a lovely and thoughtful gift from a person who cares about you and your interests.
The watch problem can be dealt with.

Well, I wouldn't get angry about it or anything, but I'd go ahead and call a return/exchange soon.

As you might be aware recently in the UK several companies have closed down (such as Comet) and the staff have lost their jobs. Just think also for a moment about people who might be suffering serious health problems themselves or for example have children that have been poorly at this time of year and have had to spend the last few days in hospital. Think also of people in different places that have suffered real personal loss in recent weeks through some of the tragic events in the news that have happened this past month. I think that these people would have valid reason to say that 'Christmas has been ruined'. You don't. You have simply received a present that isn't quite working properly. It's covered by warranty, you'll get it sorted. But please don't say that Christmas has been ruined because of it. It's only a watch, and not even a very expensive one at that.

$160 watch ruined Christmas? hmm a change in perspective might be needed along with a return/refund on your watch
