Christopher Ward has added further to its in-house Calibre SH21 movement collections with the newly launched C9 5 Day Small-Second Chronometer – a classically styled, hand-wound timepiece with a small second display at the 6 o’clock position, housed in the C9 dress case. Christopher Ward’s first in-house movement, developed over 4 years by Johannes Jahnke, was introduced this time last year. Now CW presents the C9 5 Day Small-Second Chronometer (40mm).

Johannes Jahnke’s Calibre SH21 has since been incorporated across a series of models, including the C9 Dress collection, the Trident Dive/Sports collection and the stunning limited edition C8 P7350.

The new C9 hand-wound execution carries a small second display at 6 O’clock, housed in the C9 dress case that is used across the brand’s flagship range of Dress models. The clean white dial features blued hands and roman indexes. As for power, the Calibre SH21’s twin barrel construction in series connection, provides the watch with 120 hours power reserve, and the new model features a hacking central second hand and a date function (positioned at 3 o’clock).

In another hallmark of its quality, the Calibre SH21 movement has been given the accolade of chronometer status by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), so precision and accuracy is guaranteed.

Each watch is hand crafted by Christopher Ward’s own Swiss watchmakers at their atelier in Biel, blending Swiss mechanical precision with a quintessentially English design aesthetic. The C9 5 Day Small-Second Chronometer comes on an embossed alligator-pattern Italian leather strap (in black, brown or blue) with Bader Deployment or integrated bracelet option and is available now from £1295.

It's nice that they have got the small seconds roughly in the middle between the centre and the edge of the dial. I hate when it's to close to the centre.

Nicely done, other brands should be motivated to engineer their own in-house movements.
Would you say I have a plethora of watches?

Looks great. The brown looks surprisingly awesome. Usually white dials, black markers, and blue hands would look awful with brown. Somehow it looks incredible.

That is awfully pretty. For me it has an intuitive harmony. Please, please, can we put a wooden stake into the heart of the date window on a dress watch? Big props to Nomos for giving us a choice, at least.
None the less, a beautiful piece. I'd love to see the back.

40mm on a CW dress watch with a wide dial and no bezel looks big. I had a Big Date and it looked huge for its size.
