Is Christopher Ward getting their mojo back? New Tridents

I was once a CW fan, then I saw the brand tarnished by countless 50% of sales and logo changes.

Today they launched new Tridents and after a prolonged period of a stable logo, I am genuinely interested again.

They appear to be major upgrades, new hands, new bezel with lume, new logo at 12 with the name still at 9, chamfered case bottom for comfort, easy release spring bars. A lot to like for a good price.

Here are my concerns. Are easy release spring bars long lasting and can they be replaced if needed or do you need to scrap the bracelet and start new every time? Second, it appears to be a lumed paint on the bezel, how does that last verses standard?

On a personal note, I do hope they come out with a chronometer in all black, that's my bag. I also think they do not need 600m, you could shave off a few mm of height with 300m water resistance which adds a lot to wearability.

Here is a pic, nice looking watch.

Very nice detailed observations. Thank you.

I ave been keeping an eye on CW the last 2 years. While I like several of it's new offerings, I think those are priced a bit higher than I find acceptable. Not crazy high at all. So, I am also watching the pre-loved CW market. In any event, CW strikes me as a well made watch getting even better.

Did you prefer the old onion shape? I like both, not a bad change in my opinion.

I agree. Micro brands like Monta have a high level of finishing but this is getting really close for $1500 less. Makes it hard to justify paying more than $1k for any micro.

I wish they’d released other configurations in 40mm besides the black/black combo. With my Oceanking it’d be redundant, but I’d love a blue diver or GMT. Hopefully they’ll add to the 40mm line in the future.

agreed they have the most desireable watches in the 1k ish segment imo. Really like the blue gmt 49mm lug to lug is totally reasonable too, I like the new hour hand a lot.

It looks good, though moving to the arrow-shaped hour hand makes the watch look a bit more generic relative to the older onion-hour hand. In pictures, the dial reminds me of a Halios Seaforth with a 3 o'clock date.

I will echo the sentiment that if (when?) they come out with different colorways for 40mm, I will be more interested. I'm thinking white dials, brightly colored bezels (green, blue, orange, etc). As is, a black 40mm diver is nice, but not really differentiated from a lot of other black 40-41mm divers.
