    Citizen Eco-Drive Blue Angels Chronograph

I found this Citizen Eco-Drive Blue Angels Chronograph today, thinking about picking it up for my dad. It's $335 (56%) off on eBay; living in SF, I love the Blue Angels, and this design has some nice touches around it. Reviews are solid...thoughts?

It's a solid watch, and the EcoDrive technology has been proven over the years. If you like the style, go for it!

I think I saw it on Jomashop for even less. I have one and I like it a lot.

Sorry, I just re-read your post. It's cheaper on eBay.

If it's for your dad make sure he is okay wearing a watch this large. I impulsively bought one while on a cruise two years ago and have worn it only a few times, mainly due to the size. Aside from that, I think it's a good looking and well made watch.

Fun watch with many neat complications. Just don't drop one, as they do not take abuse well. Mine never worked again.

Hrm, that's a good point. Not sure what size he typically wears...I'll have my mom do some sleuthing.

I have a few Citizen radio controlled watches, and like the Blue Angels as well. 43MM and 12mm thick is a little large, but acceptable for most. Some of their other new models are as large as 48mm which I would find too large.

I have one too. Size is on the larger size in my collection, but does not really "wear large." For someone who isn't a WUS, assuming they aren't used to vintage <35mm watches, I think the size is fine.

A few nits from me, having had it for a few years...

    - the blue anodized bezel is cool but will wear eventually; it also has a sharp angled edge making it a bit more prone to dings.

    - the strap width is 23mm which is harder to source, and the OEM strap is pretty so so. I had a nice custom blue Horween strap made by gregspitz, definitely increased my desire to wear. :)

    - with the polished hands and busier dial / subdials, readability is lower. In dim light, I've definitely had a few times where I found it harder to read the time than with other watches. On the plus side, it's got blue lume (BW9?) which is decent and lasts into the night.

All in all, a nice looking watch with great features (plus 200m WR), and the atomic time + solar is really nice. If you think the style/aesthetic will jive with your dad, I'd say go for it. :)

    Cheers

Thanks, all! Most of those concerns seem like things that'll be fine, and the size should be ok. Just placed an order :)
