    Cling Film for Watches

I noticed that many watch stores wrap their watches in some sort of thick cling film or vinyl, and I was wondering if anybody had an idea of what exactly they're using, and where I might purchase some of this?

I use Glad Wrap - works great and is available at any market.

Or you can buy the expensive stuff made by Bergeon (scroll down): Watch Crystal & Case Back Protection Pads - Masking Sheets & Rolls

Why? I use mine watches, and to have them wrapped up or with protective stickers on seems overdoing it?

I'm assuming they are to be used while working on a watch.

OK. Good idea! My watchmaker does not do that.

How are you going to work on a watch that's wrapped in a plastic sleeve?

I know nothing except the fact of my own ignorance. Socrates

With apologies to the OP, I would like to reset the discussion which has, IMHO, drifted off track and become just a bit silly.

Here is a picture of a watch I recently received back from Omega service:

You will notice it is wrapped in, and protected by, two types of vinyl film, or "cling wrap" - blue on the bracelet and clear on the watch head.

The purpose of this vinyl film is to protect the watch from damage (e.g. scratches) during shipment.

For this purpose, I use Glad Wrap, which does the job very satisfactorily, is inexpensive and is readily available.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was just thinking of protecting the dress pieces I have which I don't wear on a regular basis while they're in the watch box.
