    Closed Thread

The only thing that I hate about this website is when they arbitrarily close threads. Why? Especially the threads they send out in the"trending posts" email, only to visit and find it closed!

I'm sure some moderator will delete, close, or obliterate this post immediately, but seriously, in 2019 (given the available data space, bandwidth etc.) there is no reason for a site like this to close any thread! Period.

And it's these people here that make this site what it is.

I am sure they follow very well defined guidelines without any ambiguity or personal bias!

    Re: Closed Thread

OP, have you ever troubled yourself to consider WHY a thread got closed?

To be sure, sometimes you can't tell...because the reason was a bunch of improper, usually inflammatory or personal-attack posts, and those got deleted too. Mods often include a post indicating why the thread got locked, too, but not always.

I'm not cognizant of the process for a thread to be included in the Trending Posts email...but consider that if a sudden burst of posts is the issue, well, guess what...this *can* be an indication of a flame war going on. (SHINOLA THREADS!!!!)

One of the rules of the forum is you can't question the mods on why they close a thread. They have a lot of power to enforce the rules.

Sometimes people cross the line. It's up to the moderators to decide when that happens -- the forum has sponsors so there's a financial incentive to keep the board somewhat clean and friendly.

    Re: Closed Thread

Never come across a thread that was closed that didn’t need to be. Sometimes they descend into immature bickering rather than actual debates, and that’s when the thread has gone off the rails.

OP, there is nothing stopping you starting a new thread to continue the debate or raising a new perspective.

Perhaps that is because the thread was deleted entirely? That has happened, especially when you question the judgement of the moderators.
