    Consignment Or Trade?

I am trying to sell my Submariner and trade into a Panerai. Just wondering whats the best bet, place it on consignment with a large organization like Gray & Sons or simply try to find a dealer who will give a fair price for my watch. Also how can I figure out what a "fair" price is on a Submariner?

Compare prices at ebay, auctioneers, at the various sales forums here, on timezone.com, Equationoftime, TZ UK.

I have a pet peave about consignment, but only because of my local watchmaker. He'll get in Rolex's from time to time that he got on consignment. He then adds a little profit for himself and overprices the watches. The prices are then ridiculous! Sell it yourself....place a sales post here, tz, the purists and yes, even the Bay!

By the way, any pics of it?

He puts up pics and this becomes pretty much a sales post I think.

I simply want a fair price so I can pick up a Panerai. I don't want to turn this into a "for sale" post, just want some assistance in what is the best way to sell a Rolex. Unfortunately all Panny dealers are basically internet so trading is somewhat difficult.

I would put up a WTT here and on the Rolexforums.com. There are a number of people who are into both Rolex and Panerai for some reason. I had fantastic success trading my 45.5mm PO for a 42mm PO right here on WUS with a WTT ad in the sales forum.

Failing that you can sell your watch outright and just buy the one you want. Any time you are dealing with a middleman you are giving away some equity, that is why they do it after all.

Sorry, no. If you´d live on my continent I probably had an address for you. But you are living in Tampa and that´s quite far away from my "house-dealer".

If it's in nice shape with good pics it will sell at the right price on the forums and you won't lose a consigner's commission.
